Andrew Johnson is aiming for period of good health for Fulham after rushing back from a lengthy injury.

The 29-year-old was on the sidelines for nine months after knee surgery but reminded fans of his quality with an impressive display in the 2-0 win over Stoke.

He returned in October and was eased back into action with a string of cameo substitute appearances but still picked up a hamstring injury over the festive period.

An injury he admits that might have occurred because he came back too soon.

“Maybe, yeah,” he conceded. “You just don’t know. When your body feels right, there’s no point waiting an extra two or three weeks.

“You might as well join in. That’s how I felt. My knee felt really good.

“I came back from my knee injury probably three, four, five weeks quicker than everyone expected and, yeah, you always get those little niggles, hamstring niggles, thigh, quad, stuff like that.”

Johnson scored his first goal in almost 18 months against Wigan in the 1-1 draw last weekend to confirm his growing confidence in his fitness.

“I don’t go out on the pitch thinking about my knee at all now,” he added.

“I’m fully fit, I played 90 minutes against Stoke three or four weeks ago when we won 2-0 and I played on it again today.

“It’s always going to be hard game against Stoke – they’re a big physical team, every player’s over 6ft 2in.

“But you’ve got to roll your sleeves up and I’d like to think our football shone right through.

“It’s slowly started to come. I got a goal last week, which was obviously a big monkey off my back.

“My touch is getting better, my runs are getting better, started to feel sharper game by game and I can just continue doing that.”
