Fulham boss Mark Hughes is ready to win the £3million race for giant Ivory Coast striker Lacina Traore – who has stood out in the Champions League for Romanian side Cluj.

The towering target man is due to fly to London for a medical ahead of a move in the New Year window, with Cluj sources revealing a fee has been agreed.

Traore – also watched by Aston Villa in their midweek defeat by Basel – is just 20 and stands a stunning 6ft 8in tall. His awkward style has caught the attention of many top clubs.

However ambitious Fulham have been in talks with Cluj, whose Champions League campaign is about to end, and they are willing to do a deal.

Hughes is looking for more variety in his attack and Traore may turn out to be a bargain if he pushes the deal through quickly and gets the chance to throw him into Premier League action.
