Matthew Briggs is looking to force his way into the Fulham side after impressing in last week’s 1-0 defeat at Chelsea.

Cottagers boss Mark Hughes praised the 19-year-old youngster’s performance at Stamford Bridge as he deputised for first-choice left-back Carlos Salcido, but still left him out of Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Newcastle.

However Briggs is undeterred about that as he is now looking to use any future chances to prove to Hughes that he deserves a regular place in the team.

“It’s a massive leap for me,” he told the club’s official website. “I’ve got my foot in the door and I’ve got to keep it there now. I’ve just got to prove myself.

“From playing against Millwall reserves to playing against the champions was a big step and the pace of the game was a lot quicker.

“Playing against the likes of Drogba and Kalou was a big challenge. The players all told me that I did well so I’ve got to take that on board and move on from there.”
