Fulham’s first half display against Man City was the team’s worst 45 minutes in the past three and a half years according to Chris Baird.
The defender, back in the side after injury, pulled no punches after a 4-1 defeat that was sprinkled with defensive errors and a failure to close down an admittedly slick City.
“It’s the worst I’ve been involved with since I’ve been here,” Baird said of Fulham’s first half display which left them 3-0 down and out for the count.
“We were much better in the second half, but to give a team like Manchester City a three goal lead with the players they’ve got, it’s just not going to happen for us.”
Baird, who arrived from Southampton in 2007, added: “We possibly showed them too much respect in the first half. We’re a much better team than we showed today.
“I think we didn’t do the things we were told to do, which was to get in their faces early, turn them early and get them to play in their half.
“We were sloppy, which wasn’t like us and they took full advantage. That was the first time since I’ve been here that we’ve been that bad and hopefully we can turn it around next week.”
