Mark Hughes was ‘delighted‘ with Fulham’s impressive win over Wigan this afternoon, suggesting that his side have been a little unfortunate not to pick up more points given the quality of the football they have been playing.

I am delighted. We’ve played well this season and today, I thought certainly in the first half, it was the best we’ve produced all year. That’s saying something because we have played well this year so I was delighted with going in two-nil to the good and we were good value for that in fairness.

Second half Wigan tried to ask more questions of us but in fairness we were quite comfortable and Mark Schwarzer has had very little to do today. So, I just thought our intensity to out-play and our real intention and the way we took the initiative in the game was there for everybody to see and we fully deserved the win today.

We have great movement, we’ve got a lot of rotation in forward areas. What we wanted to do today was to play in the opposition half – sometimes we’ve been guilty of conceding a little bit of ground and having too much to do going forward but today we played the vast majority of the game in Wigan’s half and they found it very difficult.

Time and time again we released our full-backs to good effect and the crosses from wide areas were perfect for Clint. I think it was important for us, I think we’ve played well and maybe not got the results that our performances have deserved.

Last week we were missing a few key personnel and I think you saw the difference today, obviously with the likes of Danny (Murphy) who has a big influence on the team and Simon Davies gave us his experience and I just thought straight from the off we showed real intent that we really wanted to get something out of this game and, as I said, arguably our best performance this year.
