Fulham’s young goalkeeper David Stockdale claimed that his match-turning penalty save from Nani was down to good old-fashioned guesswork after the 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.

The former Darlington custodian, who has stood in superbly for Arsenal target Mark Schwarzer in the Fulham goal, guessed right to deny Nani and prevent Manchester United from moving out of sight earlier this afternoon.

It’s a great feeling. It was guesswork. I just tried to get the lads out of the deep muck, and Brede came up trumps.

Stockdale said that any talk of him succeeding Schwarzer on a long-term basis was premature, insisting that he takes things ‘day by day’.
