David Stockdale could be in line for a surprise England call-up

The Telegraph are splashing pretty strongly on David Stockdale being included in England’s squad for their first two European Championship qualifiers on Sunday.

Fabio Capello faces something of a goalkeeping shortage, exacerbated by Paul Robinson’s decision to retire from international football last month and Robert Green’s form and injury problems. Stockdale has enjoyed a strong start to the season deputising for Mark Schwarzer in the Fulham goal and is reportedly about to be included as back-up to number one Joe Hart for the two fixtures against Bulgaria next Friday night and in Switzerland on Tuesday 7th September.

The 24-year-old will reportedly be joined in the England squad by Fulham team-mate Bobby Zamora, who enjoyed an impressive debut as a substitute against Hungary earlier this month. Capello will confirm his squad on Sunday.
