Fulham have denied reports that Mark Schwarzer has submitted a transfer request.
The Australian international has been rumoured to be top of Arsene Wenger’s shortlist as the Arsenal manager searches for a new goalkeeper but Fulham insist a report in this morning’s Sun saying that he had formally asked to leave Craven Cottage.
A Fulham spokeswomen said:
The club has not received a transfer request from Mark Schwarzer. Mark is under contract with us until the summer of 2011 and the manager has underlined his commitment to keep hold of his best players.
The fans might suspect the hand of Mark Hughes in such a swift rebuttal of transfer speculation. Whatever the catalyst, it’s reassuring news.
He made it clear to ESPN Soccernet that he wants to go. I say let him go. If he doesn’t want to be on the team, he can only hurt us at that point. Sell him and pick up a quality replacement. We have a keeper factory in the United States, just ask for Ed, he’s the foreman.
