This annoys me. We’re effectively smoothing out the rough edges of Chris Smalling’s play for Manchester United’s benefit.
Good luck to the lad but isn’t it a little like learning to drive by crashing your mate’s car?
Had he not been signed by United then the criticism would be quite different. But now all eyes are on him.
He’ll cope with the pressure of playing at Old Trafford. I’m doing Alex a favour, letting him get his mistakes out of the way at Fulham.
Hopefully, Fergie will remember the ‘favour’ next time he wants to send one of his young fledglings out on loan.
An odd reaction to this, Dan. It clearly says Roy is joking. What’s the difference in Smalling being here (effectively on loan now) and Okaka brushing up his play at the Cottage? At least Fulham are getting paid for aiding Smalling’s development.
I wasn’t being entirely serious Andy, although I do have this nagging irritation that whenever we uncover a gem he’s soon sold on elsewhere. It does hold Fulham back a bit.
Thank heavens for that. Let’s face it, after the last few performances by Smalling it seems Fulham have come from the deal smiling. Just hope that money is reinvested in the squad ie Nicky Shorey if he remains keen – http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11681_6056043,00.html
Although whether the squad could contain two quality left backs when additional firepower is required remains to be seen.
