Roy Hodgson has revealed that he sent Bobby Zamora home today in a bid to ensure that the in-form striker is fit for tomorrow night’s Europa League quarter final with Wolfsburg.
The Fulham manager insists he is confident that Zamora, who has been suffering with a cold, will be able to take his place in the starting line-up against the German champions at Craven Cottage tomorrow.
He [Zamora] came in today [Wednesday] with a cold so we decided not to take any chances with this beautiful Spring weather we’re having at the moment! Rather than send him out into the Arctic conditions we sent him home in the hope that he will be fit on Thursday.
Our Sports Medicine and Exercise Science Department are very confident that this precaution was a sensible one. I would be very surprised if he [Zamora] doesn’t make it but the risk exists because he didn’t train today. He’s in our starting eleven. We’re trying to play what we think is our best Team on Thursday and it would be a great disappointment to me, the Club and the fans if he’s not able to play.
