Some much-needed full back cover for our depleted defence. Nicky Shorey has signed from Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.

The Club can confirm that Aston Villa defender Nicky Shorey has joined on loan until the end of the 2009/10 Barclays Premier League season, with an option to buy following the loan spell with the Whites.

Shorey began his professional career at Leyton Orient before moving to Reading FC in 2001 where he became an integral member of Reading’s First Team for several seasons.

Shorey’s impressive form for Reading in the Barclays Premier League earned him international recognition in 2007, with the defender make his full England debut against Brazil at Wembley before gaining his second cap against Germany at Wembley in the same year.

Following Reading’s relegation to the Championship, Shorey transferred to Aston Villa in 2008 on a three year deal. Shorey will be a welcome addition to Roy Hodgson’s squad for second half of the 2009/10 Barclays Premier League season.

Will Fulham bring anyone else in before the deadline passes?
