Stephen Carr was ‘devastated’ after giving away the late free-kick that cost Birmingham a point at Fulham yesterday, according to Blues manager Alex McLeish.

The Birmingham captain was penalised for barging over Zoltan Gera just outside the box and Bobby Zamora stepped up to convert the last-minute set-piece. McLeish revealed that the former Tottenham and Newcastle full back was crestfallen by his mistake afterwards.

I’m disappointed that we conceded a free-kick that late in the game on the edge of the box. Stevie Carr is devastated in the dressing room but he doesn’t make many mistakes in a season and I’m sure he’ll bounce back.

I wouldn’t put my keeper at fault for the winning goal. Zamora drilled it high into the top corner.

I don’t think Joe had seen it until it was around the wall, there were a lot of bodies out there. Perhaps an extra body in the wall would have stopped it but you never know.
