Sky Sports News are reporting that Fulham defender Chris Smalling has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with Manchester United. The England under-21 international will move to Old Trafford in July.
Manchester United’s statement describes an ‘undisclosed fee’ and quotes Smalling as follows:
My time at Fulham has been great and I have learned a lot about the game from Roy Hodgson and the coaching staff. But the chance of coming to the biggest club in the world is something I just couldn’t turn down. I’m excited about working with Sir Alex and the fantastic players in the squad.
I’ve played a few times in the Europa League this year, but the thought of making the step up to the Champions League next year is great. I can’t wait.
Same statement on our offal. Surprised to see they’ve even included the “I can’t wait” line in there – will he be giving 100% when he plays for us through the rest of the season? Plus, I don’t like the way that Man Utd call it Smalling’s “big move”. Sure, it’s true (and an awful pun), but also reeks of arrogance.
I don’t know. I thought he let Crouch go a bit easily for the goal on Tuesday but I might be being a bit harsh. I think when you win a lot of trophies and feel you can snare any young prospect going arrogance is almost a foregone conclusion.
