The People links Roy Hodgson heavily with taking over from Fabio Capello an awful lot sooner than anyone might expect. I would dismiss this as idle gossip if it wasn’t for the fact that the journalist, Dave Kidd, is a Fulham fan and his stories are normally very well sourced.

Hodgson has made it clear that he remains happy and fully committed to completing his job at Fulham – but he has stated in recent media interviews that he would be interested if the FA were to come calling. His rescue act and sound stewardship at the Cottage have made him a serious contender to take over from Capello, although Hodgson has been passed over for the England job before. He was on the shortlist to replace Kevin Keegan, who left Fulham to take over the national team, but the FA went for Sven-Goran Eriksson instead.
