Chris Smalling says he’s chuffed to have been a regular feature in Fulham’s European campaign and the promising defender is now setting his sights on trying to break into the team on a regular basis.

The England under-21 centre back, generally impressive in the Europa League despite being ridiculously penalised for chesting the ball in the box against Basel in the week, has been told by Stuart Pearce that he needs to displace Brede Hangeland or Aaron Hughes in the Fulham first-team to continue his amazing development since stepping up from non-league football with Maidstone United. That’s a bit of a tall order in more ways than one.

To play in most of the group games in the Europa League has been brilliant. Hopefully I’ve done myself justice. We’ve got a lot of League games coming up and hopefully I can get myself into some of them.
