The Fulham manager’s obviously got the respect of plenty of people in the game and the latest to suggest that Roy should replace Fabio Capello – as and when the Italian steps down – is Pat Nevin.

There is a feeling in the wind that Roy should one day be England manager and I would go along with that.
It would be a shame if the FA felt there wasn’t an Englishman capable of taking the England team. There are two or three people who are at the latter stages of their careers, which, historically, is when people are best suited to international management.
Roy Hodgson fits that profile perfectly and he would have to be regarded as a serious contender.
