You can’t argue with Ye Olde Tree and Crown’s assertion that Mark Schwarzer was the reason Fulham were able to head home with a point tonight.

Wigan Athletic were denied the three points on offer by the extraordinarily good form of Fulham’s man of the match, goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer. Without a shadow of doubt Schwarzer was the sole reason the game ended 1-1 as opposed to the hosts claiming their third London scalp of the season at the DW Stadium.

The Australian was outstanding – he made a string of fine saves. Mind you, Chris Kirkland, was brilliant as well.

Jesus was a Wiganer noted that we were hard done by in Rome, but reckoned that Phil Dowd got the penalty decision wrong. The free-kick that led to the penalty was certainly dubious and they are right to feel this was two points dropped. Fulham were hanging on gamely for much of the contest.

But it still feels like two points dropped as Latics — not for want of trying — failed to put away their opponents by taking their chances. Let’s hope a similar Wigan team turns up at Tottenham exactly two weeks today and we manage to hit the back of the net a few more times.
