The stories that implied it was simply a formality that Roy Hodgson would be appointed as the Great Britain coach at the 2012 Olympics might be wide of the mark, but the Fulham manager is flattered to be linked to the job.

Hodgson confirmed this week that he is set to sign a rolling contract to keep him at Craven Cottage for the forseeable future and said he was pleased to hear his name mentioned in discussions about who would lead the British side at the London Olympics.

I don’t know what the Great Britain job entails. But it’s nice that my name has been mentioned, I won’t make any secret of that.
