Much consternation a couple of weeks ago when Fulham concluded a marketing deal with Fenway Sports Group, a condition of which was to consider selling the naming rights to Craven Cottage.
While they can’t get it as wrong as Newcastle United, I’ve yet to warm to the idea.
Playing at the sportsdirect.com @ St. James’ Park stadium would quite funny if it wasn’t such a slap in the face to the Newcastle fans. Since Mike Ashley owns the dodgy sports merchandising firm, isn’t he just transferring money from his left trouser pocket to the right one?
Selling the naming rights to a stadium is fundamentally wrong. Renaming Craven Cottage just shouldn’t be an option regardless of how much money is on the table.
I agree with you Chloe. This piece in particular almost captures the charm of the club which would be ruined if the ground name became commercialised.
Oops, meant this piece in particular: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/danwalker/2009/11/thank_goodness_for_fulham.html
Good piece. Thanks for the heads up, Nick.
