The media have run reports like this before – but the Sun seems pretty confident that Brede Hangeland’s about to put pen to paper on a new contract at Fulham.

The Norwegian captain is apparently ready to sign a new four-year deal worth £50,000 a week, which would (by my reckoning) make him our highest paid player, although the paper simply says that the proposed wage would put him in the same wage bracket as Danny Murphy. The Sun still suggests that Arsenal are lurking in the wings to lure Hangeland away, despite a fairly robust denial from Arsene Wenger in the summer.

Securing Hangeland on a long-term deal would be a real coup for Fulham even if his performances this season haven’t been as assured as the displays that marked him out as a solid defender last season. As ever, we’ll wait for the official announcement.

Interestingly, the Sun also says that won’t be making a move for Emile Heskey.
