Brede Hangeland hopes he will sign a new five-year contract with Fulham but said his primary focus is on playing well for the club.

The Norwegian centre back was the subject of a torrent of transfer speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal in the summer but has always maintained that he wants to stay at Craven Cottage. The Sun reported last week that Hangeland was close to doubling his money with a new long-term deal and he hopes that it can be finalised shortly.

We have had a couple of meetings (about a new contract) and hopefully it won’t be long. It’s nice when people think I’ve done well but I don’t really know how much was in that speculation (linking him with Arsenal).

In the summer there will always be rumours. I just concentrate on the training ground and the pitch.
