Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of Liverpool’s trip to Fulham tomorrow and may face an operation on his injured groin.

The Liverpool captain hasn’t played since limping out of their 2-1 defeat to Lyons in the Champions’ Leagu midway through the first half. He missed the subseqeunt defeat to Sunderland and sat out Sunday’s win over Manchester United at Anfield. Rafa Benitez admits that the midfielder’s continuing absence is a concern.

Gerrard is improving but the next week will be crucial in terms of what we will do with him. His progress is slow, we will have to decide what do if he doesn’t progress as quickly as we would hope.

The Liverpool manager is aslo likely to be without both Glen Johnson and Alberto Aquilani. The England full back is expected to be sidelined for another week with a torn calf muscle, while Aquilani, who made his long-awaited debut for the first team as a substitute in Wednesday’s Carling Cup defeat by Arsenal, will probably not make the trip to Craven Cottage after suffering from an illness in the past couple of days.
