I just thought I’d pass along the offal interview with Chris Baird. Although he looked hapless at right back, the Northern Ireland international has shown plenty of character to face down the terrace taunts and proved himself a good judge of character when it came to Jimmy Bullard too.

Much more important than that is the fact that Baird’s obviously a very solid centre back. He proved that at Spurs last season and he’s a useful option in midfield too. Plenty of people have derided Hodgson for bringing him on as a holding midfielder in the past (and the reaction amongst the people I sit with is yet to be too favourable), but lost amongst the discussion of Dikgacoi’s sending off and that injury-team equaliser, was just how good Baird was in central midfield at West Ham the other week.

Well done, Chris.
