It might be a bit harsh on young David Stockdale – who enjoyed a fine debut against Everton on Sunday – but the main talking point ahead of Fulham’s Europa League opener is whether first-choice goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer will be fit enough to face CSKA Sofia on Thursday night.
Schwarzer missed the 2-1 win over Everton at Craven Cottage at the weekend with a stiff neck that he hurt during Australia’s friendly against South Korea in Seoul the week before and many papers have declared him a big doubt for the game in Sofia. But Roy Hodgson seems confident that he’ll be able to put the big Aussie back between the sticks again.
I don’t think Mark should be out too long now. He’s feeling better.
Makes sense to have our first choice goalkeeper if we’re playing more or less a second string in front of him! Hope his neck’s alright and isn’t being rushed back – think he might be quite busy tonight.
Judging by Roy’s comments to the BBC this morning, it looks as though Stockdale will play.
