I don’t make a habit of listening to talkSPORT but heard John Motson promoting his new book on there earlier this afternoon.
He was full of praise for Craven Cottage – saying that he always enjoys his trips to Fulham and that is it one of the best grounds to commentate at. Motson also said he wished there were more grounds like the Cottage in England, which is particularly interesting at a time when most of the new stadiums being built are souless, identikit bowls on the outskirts of cities.
There’s something to be said for preserving a bit of history and maintaining that link between today and yesterday without severing ties to those who came before us.
Absolutely. The Cottage is the main reason why I’m a Fulham fan having fallen in love as an awestruck child on my first visit. I’m so happy we’re back there and hope we never leave.
The first ground I ever went to was Old Trafford to watch Utd play Fulham in the late 60s. Saw Fulham play at home to Barrow at the Cottage and fell in love with the fans and Ground. It had soul and a sense of heart. While Old Trafford was just big. I was a Fulham fan long before seeing them at home. But the Cottage made it an obsession.
