Fulham are waiting for the results of a scan on Damien Duff’s calf following a freak injury against Arsenal.

The Irish international had been substituted just nine minutes into the London derby, which Fulham lost to a second half strike from Robin van Persie.

Manager Roy Hodgson said:

“He felt something go in his calf. We won’t know how serious it is until we get the results of a scan. There was no one near him when he went down, it’s just one of those freak situations.”

Duff could miss crucial matches for club and country if the scan reveals bad news. Fulham face Basle in the Europa League on Thursday before taking on West Ham at the weekend. Duff will be determined to return for Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Italy at Croke Park next month
