It could just be another crazy internet rumour – like the Carlos Vela deadline day loan deal seemed to be – but somebody on the official site says we’ve approached Sutton United with an offer for their striker Stefan Payne.
The 18-year-old is rumoured to be joining Fulham on a two-year contract and being put straight into the Development Squad or what we know as the reserves. The fee is rumoured to be around £20,000. Some might scoff at picking up another youngster from non-league football but Chris Smalling seems to be a particularly promising prospect.
Payne’s been heavily scouted by a number of sides and has an impressive scoring record for Sutton. Payne has found the net nine times in 14 games since being signed up after impressing for Croydon’s youth team against their Sutton in the South Youth League Cup final in May.
