After the Europa League draw, I mused on the links between Roma and Fulham ahead of the games between the two clubs. Well, to the names of Alec Stock and Vincenzo Montella, it looks like you can add another: Christian Damiano has been named as the new assistant manager at Roma.

Damiano, who will be number to Claudio Ranieri, spent three years at Fulham as Jean Tigana’s asssistant. He – and fitness coach Roger Propos – should share much of the credit for the flowing Fulham that took Fulham to the Division 1 title, all the way to an FA Cup semi-final and – of course – our first European adventure the following season. The former French under-18 national coach also worked at Liverpool and Southampton after Tigana’s rather acrimonious depature.

I’m sure the Fulham fans will give him a warm welcome when he returns to Craven Cottage on October 22.
