The BBC are suggesting that Chris Baird could be leaving Fulham.
Fulham’s Chris Baird could be on the move to the Championship, with West Bromwich Albion, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United all looking at a deadline-day move for the Northern Ireland international. Newly-promoted Wolves are showing an interest too, though.
Personally, I’d be very surprised if anything was to come of this. Baird has improved greatly since his nervous, out of position displays under Sanchez. He was outstanding at centre back at Tottenham in Hangeland’s absence last season and has recently come on and done a job in central midfield. Hodgson obviously trusts him and the squad would be a lot weaker without Baird in it.
Hodgson said the other day that he views Baird as a ready-made replacement for Aaron Hughes, so I cannot see him being keen on offloading him. If anything, he should be looking to add to our list of central defenders.
Yeah, I think this is nonsense too. Baird’s done well this season, although it doesn’t seem to dissuade some of the people who sit near me and persist to rubbish him when he comes on. He’s good cover for a couple of positions and strengthening our defence would have been one of the things I’d have done in this window.
