Is anyone else a little worried that Clint Dempsey might not be able to play a full part in our Premier League opener against Portsmouth on Saturday?
All the indications are that Bob Bradley is planning to use Dempsey as the United States attempt to break their Azteca duck in their big World Cup qualifier against Mexico tonight. The match won’t start until late tonight our time, plus there’s all the jet lag and altitude to factor in.
It’s not as if Clint’s had a quiet close season either. This article hints at Roy Hodgson’s frustration that Dempsey hasn’t been able to have as much of a rest as he’d have liked over the summer. So, will he be right for the game? If Clint doesn’t start, how will we line up at Fratton Park on Saturday?
You seem to have the same wordpress template as me;
STATEMENT is a great template huh! lol
PLAY UP POMPEY!
Yeah, it’s not bad, eh? Nice site you’ve got there. What’s the mood like amongst the Pompey faithful ahead of the new season?
Hate to say it, but unless we are getting blown our or we are blowing Mexico out, Clint plays 90 today. And he should play 90 today, its important.
Don’t have a problem with Dempsey playing – just that his summer schedule is probably going to mean he won’t see as many minutes on the field this season for Fulham. His participation tonight might mean it’s the bench for him at Portsmouth on Saturday – but then who’s the alternative?
Gerra….Riise…who also both played yesterday. And if Clint misses Pompey, he misses Pompey. It won’t make or break the season. We’ll handle El Salvador at home in September, so I doubt Clint will be needed to go 90 (may be a chance some of our “regulars” won’t be called up).
We all wanted European football, we got it. Not sure why this is shocking all of a sudden, we have internationals from all over the globe. We gotta deal with it. If Roy really had an issue with this, he would have shopped Clint around this summer. Someone would have gladly picked him up.
Wouldn’t say it was a shock – I’ve just been considering how much football Clint’s played (and I must confess many months ago I didn’t realise that the gap between the Mexico game and the start of the season was so short).
I would be really tempted to give Riise a go to be honest, but Roy will probably play Gera from the start if Clint doesn’t make it.
Touting Clint around would have been madness if you ask me. He’s still a fine player and may just have to be managed carefully this season (both by the manager and the medical team).
