Continuing the theme of things that were surprising last night, I didn’t spot a single television camera in or around the ground. For a European game, that struck me as a bit odd.

It’s funny that they didn’t have cameras at the stadium. You’d think they’d make more money by having at least someone pick up the tv rights you know? Even the FA cup v kettering town was shown last year in the States. My bet is that they are worried about Europa League becoming too popular and competing with the CL.

Think we’ll be struggling for any more videos to be honest. A guy a few rows in front of me had his phone out when Duff was charging down the wing in the lead up to the Zamora goal so maybe I’ll have a word with him on Sunday and see if he can put it up on Youtube!
The whole television rights issue is a bit of a muddle for the Europa League. British TV companies have to have an existing contract with UEFA and the negotiate the fee with the clubs involved as I understand it. The British TV channels had their cameras elsewhere (in Austria with Villa and at Everton) so we missed out. If Fulham sold their own highlights they would probably be in contravention of the UEFA rules, which is something we don’t need. At the moment, it doesn’t look like anybody will be showing the second leg over here either.
The reason the Cup tie at Kettering was on last year was because the FA negotiates international rights for their competitions.
