I was catching up on my Football Weekly this morning and in Monday’s edition, the Guardian’s chief football correspondent Kevin McCarra revealed that Roy Hodgson’s response to Fulham’s defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Sunday was to walk into the post-match press conference and discuss Brian Glanville’s novel Dictators with the veteran football journalist.
McCarra, always an interesting writer, mused on just how many other Premier League managers might have done this having watched their side lose a local derby. Not many, I’ll bet. And that’s why Hodgson and Fulham are such a great fit. His intelligence (and not to mention his sportsmanship – in evidence again tonight) make him one of the most fascinating managers in the top flight.
funny, i heard the same thing on monday’s pod. he truly is something to behold.
when he retires, he should get his own 30min spot on the bbc or something. “roy’s round table” or something discussion based like that.
Good stuff. The really strange thing is that I had a rather surreal conversation with Glanville outside the Hammersmith End before the game on Sunday.
Your idea of a discussion show is excellent. Sadly, I doubt the Beeb would go for it. Perhaps we’ll offer him a position as the presenter of the Fulham podcast? 😉
haha sounds good.
speaking of, i need to get you on that/i need to start one for this season. i’ll email you next week.
I’m still trying to put a podcast together for CravenCottage.us. Things are a little hectic right now with work, but should calm down shortly.
