Roy Hodgson has backed Bobby Zamora to have a more successful season in front of goal but has told his striker that he will have to be greedier in front of goal.

Cast your mind back six weeks and it seemed that Zamora was on the verge of joining Hull City for £5m. The Chronicle suggests he would have moved north had the Tigers been willing to give him an increase in wages but he decided to stay and notched the only goal of the game, even if it was a tad fortunate, as Fulham opened their new league campaign with a win at Portsmouth on Saturday.

Bob’s determined to prove critics wrong. On a personal level he wants to get global recognition for what he’s done – and not just from his own team-mates.

But to do that – he’s going to have get on the scoresheet a bit more – and it’s possible he needs to be greedier. He’s known as a setter-up of goals, and last season we and he missed a few. But his pre-season form was excellent – and I’m sure I’ll be a happier man by the end of this season.
