Damien Duff says he was ‘gagging’ to make his debut in last night’s victory over Amkar Perm and set about making an impression from the moment he replaced Zoltan Gera late in the second half.

It was nice. I was just gagging to get on the pitch all night, so I was probably letting off a bit of steam in my first attack, and it was nice to set up the goal.

Overall it was a good win from a tough game. I think they [Amkar Perm] played very well tonight. It was obviously disappointing to give away the away goal near the end, but it was still a good result for us to take away there.

Duff was rather coy about his chances of facing former club Chelsea on Sunday.

It’s a very settled team, so it will be hard to break into. So I’m just going to keep my head down, and keep working hard. It was just nice to get a run out tonight.

Most important is the success of the team and getting results, so hopefully we’ll do that again on Sunday.

The former Newcastle winger had some nice words for the Fulham fans too.

They’ve been fantastic. There were lads down at the training ground to meet me and then there was the atmosphere here tonight, so it’s been a great start and long may it continue.

But how to acclaim our new hero? The Hammersmith End went with ‘We’ve got Damien Duff’ but a reworking of the old Joy Division anthem might be a better fit: ‘Duff will tear you apart, again’.
