There was no miracle in the Estadio Azteca for the United States last night.
Despite taking the lead through Charlie Davies, the US slumped to a 2-1 defeat by Mexico, which boosts their hosts hopes of making the World Cup finals. Fulham’s Clint Dempsey was largely ineffective – saying that he was the best of a poor American midfield is rather damning him with faint praise – but he did last the full ninety minutes, which might raise questions over his participation at Portsmouth on Saturday.
Dempsey was emphatically not one of the best in the midfield, but the midfield was awful vs. Mexico
Personally I thought he was a hell of lot better than Bradley, Clark and Feilhaber but then football’s a game of opinions.
