Aston Villa are set to make a move for Fulham’s Brede Hangeland.

The 28-year-old Norwegian defender has turned down Fulham’s latest contract offer, fuelling speculation that he is set to leave Craven Cottage.

According to reports, Villa are about to make a £9 million bid, offering Hangeland wages of around £45,000 per week, roughly £15,000 more than his current earnings.

With Martin Laursen having retired, Martin O’Neill is desperate to sign a replacement defender.

Arsenal have been linked with Hangeland in the past, but their interest has cooled following the signing of Thomas Vermaelen.
