Bobby Zamora put Fulham ahead on the stroke of half term as Fulham gradually began to take control of their Europa League qualifying tie against FK Vetra in Lithuania.

The Whites endured something of a rocky start with skipper Danny Murphy having to clear a header from Gediminas Palauskas off the line in the early stages but as the midfield began to assert themselves Fulham started to gain the ascendancy. Andy Johnson drilled a shot wide, Zoltan Gera spooned one over and Brede Hangeland headed narrowly wide from an inviting Murphy free-kick.

Fulham’s passing was creating plenty of chances. Zamora perhaps should have done better went sent clean through on goal but shot straight at the goalkeeper and Dempsey shot wide after a mazy run. Johnson created a fine chance for Gera, who failed to connect cleanly from close range and shinned his effort past the near post. Just as it looked as though it might be level at half-time, Zamora found himself between the two Vetra centre backs and on the half turn fired home a crucial away goal.
