West Brom have rejected a £4m offer from Fulham for their skipper Jonathan Greening.

It is the third bid from the London club that the Baggies have turned down this summer and it may prompt Roy Hodgson to look elsewhere for new arrivals. It certainly should set him thinking as Greening is 30 and there will be little sell-on value or chance or recouping such a big outlay as it remains doubtful that West Brom will be willing to accept a modest increase on £4m.

There’s no doubt that Greening is a good player, but we are now becoming in danger of entering into the realms of mad money. There must be better bargains out there and Roy has shown before that he is not averse to shopping in the Scandinavian market, for example, in which he has plenty of experience. It should be said as well that the Baggies are seemingly taking advantage of Greening’s better nature as the midfielder might have handed in a transfer request but had previously pledged not to rock the boat.
