Perhaps our continuing pursuit of Peter Crouch is indicative of just how low-key Fulham’s recruitment process is this summer.

Yesterday, Sky Sports News and the major sports websites were full of stories about how Crouch had flown into Newcastle airport and spent most of the day talking to Steve Bruce. The frenzied nature of the reporting made it seem like a switch to Sunderland was a done deal.

Today, Crouch’s chat with Roy Hodgson at Motspur Park barely made a few lines at the back of the sub-Standard. Their report hinted that our location and European football would work in our favour, particularly if Crouch was keen to move south, but found time to mention the fact that we seem unwilling to break what sounds like a rigid wage structure.

It seems certain that the England striker will leave Fratton Park this summer, but no-one’s sure where he’ll end up. We should know more by the end of the weekend, according to this report.
