The Clint Dempsey-to-Everton rumours don’t show any sign of subsiding.
Taking their cue from The Sun, Goal are reporting that Everton are planning to table a £4m bid for Dempsey. There doesn’t seem to be too much new information in the article, although they repeat the questionable claim that Clint has turned down a new contract at Fulham.
At least the report suggests that Fulham are prepared to put up a fight to keep the American midfielder (misidentified as a striker). It looks like it could be something of a nervy summer.
As an Everton fan, I can’t see there being any truth in this one. Dempsey doesn’t fit the mould of player which Moyes has consistantly signed since he’s been at Everton.
He signs either youngsters with a lot of potential. Or proven players who will improve Everton’s starting eleven. Dempsey is neither. He’s an ok player, but he’s not going to get on the field ahead of Yakubu, Cahill and Jo. And Moyes doesn’t sign players to warm the bench.
Dempsey hardly classifies as “ok”. He’s quality and worth every penny of 4 million. But it’s true that Clint may not fit into Moyes’ side. Although, I see a lot of similarities between he and Cahill in terms of their roles. And even though I support Fulham, it would be nice, as a Yank, to see Dempsey in the squad with Timmy Howard. The two ex-MLS players who moved up to the big time and made us proud…nice story indeed.
Dempsey is a good player and would be a great addition for everton. He is still young, proven in the premiership and works hard. Would take him any day
Clint is worth far more than the £4 Million which is banded about! In the current market he should fetch treble that amount. Would hate to see him leave for Scouseland.
