Good news from the Express. Simon Davies, who to my mind remains so crucial to Fulham, reckons he will be fit for the start of the new campaign having had surgery on his injured ankle.

It does seem probable that he will miss our first outing in the Europa League on July 30, though. The Welshman thinks his operation was a success, which is great news.

It has been a few weeks now since the operation and next I will be able to have the scans to see that the bone has healed all right. If everything goes to plan I will be back for pre-season.

Being cautious, I might miss the first couple of weeks but, all being well, I will be fit and available for selection for the first game of the season.

This seems to suggest that it was right to choose to have the surgery and miss the last few weeks of the season.

The specialist said that if I had carried on longer, the bone could have cracked all the way through and it would have been five or six months out.
