Danny Murphy’s latest blog for Eurosport is up – and it’s really interesting ready.
He speaks openly about the possibility of following Alan Shearer into management when he finishes his playing career. Plenty of Fulham fans have suggested that our current captain should be given a job on the coaching staff when he hangs up his boots. He is obviously a thoughtful footballer, more intelligent than the average member of the profession who adourns the tabloids and comes across as tactically astute when interviewed in the media. I believe he’s currently doing his coaching badges.
We’ve had some success and failure in employing first-time managers at Fulham over the years – Coleman, Bracewell and Adams spring to mind immediately – and I’m not for a minute suggesting that it should come any time soon. But I reckon Danny and Fulham would be a good fit.
It’s an interesting one this. I think sentiment might be ruling your heart here. There’s no indication that Murphy’s going to be a blinding manager and it would be a massive risk to put an unproven guy in charge of a Premiership team. I’d be happy with Roy sticking around for a good few years yet. I don’t think he’s going to leave this job half done.
