That’s the main story from the Monday morning tittle-tattle. I remember being laughed at when I suggested we should be looking at Brunt around Christmas time. It’s certainly not the first time we’ve been rumoured to be sniffing around the Baggies’ left-sided midfielder (even though the Mail headline laughably describes him as a defender) as Lawrie Sanchez was supposedly interested in bringing him to the Cottage. He’s got a great left foot and can whip in some excellent crosses but rarely beats his man. Whether he’s the answer to our lack of width remains to be seem – as does the truth about how real our interest is.
There are two other links that I’ve spotted so far today. One is our reported interest in Nigel Reo-Coker, who hasn’t really sparkled as much as many expected after joining Aston Villa from West Ham. Tribal Football think that we’ll be making an offer for the young FC Twente striker Marko Arnautovic, who scored 12 goals this term as Steve McClaren’s side finished second in the league and lost on penalties in the Dutch Cup final.
