The Sunday tittle-tattle surpasses itself today.
The Daily Star says that Anton Ferdinand would be Roy Hodgson’s choice to replace Brede Hangeland. That presupposes that Hangeland will be on the move this summer – and the paper thinks Arsenal is his most likely destination. While the Gunners do need a couple of new centre backs, everything I’ve read suggests that Wenger would be looking to entice Matthew Upson back to Arsenal or shop abroad for his new recruits.
And would we really want Ferdinand? He has been patchy for an average Sunderland side this season. If Hangeland goes this summer – and I still think that’s a big if – I’d be hoping Roy could do better.
