Bournemouth are in the race to sign the former Fulham striker Lewis Smith, who was released by the Premier League club in March.
Smith has been very impressive for Conference South side Bishop’s Stortford, scoring 12 goals in 19 games for the no0n-leaguers. But Cherries manager Eddie Howe is keen to sign Smith, who had a successful trial at Dean Court, once Bournemouth’s transfer embargo is lifted.
Bournemouth did brilliantly to shrug off a hefty points deduction from the Football League and secure survival in League Two this season.
Didn’t know he’d been released. I’d been impressed with him in the brief glimpses I’d seen.
Looked decent whenever I saw him too, but I think the club has to make some hard decisions about the boys who have actually got the ability to make it at our level. The fact that he’s wanted by a league club suggests he’s got a future in the game.
