Andy Johnson has admitted that he thought he’d score more goals in his first season at Fulham and has set himself a target of reaching 15 goals by the end of the season.

The former Crystal Palace striker joined the Cottagers in the summer from Everton for a fee believed to be around £10m and has only scored 10 goals so far this season. Yet, he’s happy that Fulham are moving in the right direction and hasn’t given up hope of catching Fabio Capello’s eye.

This season the goals haven’t come probably as freely as I would have hoped, but I’m happy with my total so far and I’d like to add another four or five.

With the amount of money the club spent on me, there was always going to be pressure to do well and score goals but, for me, the main thing was the team’s performance. That’s the important thing, not how many times I hit the back of the net.

As far as the England team is concerned, it’s at the back of my mind, but at the same time it’s not something I think about every day. Playing for your country is a massive honour, but the main thing for me is playing and performing for Fulham. But if I’m playing well and scoring goals, you never know do you?
