Our former New Zealand midfielder Simon Elliot has returned to the MLS to join the San Jose Earthquakes.
Elliot, who I felt came in from unjustified stick from some of fans despite clearly only being a temporary measure to plug the gaps in our midfield, was released by Fulham at the end of last season. I do remember his delivery from corners and free-kicks giving us a little bit extra towards the end of Chris Coleman’s reign.
Elliot admits that finding a new club has taken some time, but he does seem to be in San Jose’s first-team plans for the new season, having played the full 90 minutes of their latest friendly against Portland Timbers. Having played in the Beijing Olympics earlier this summer, Elliot is still a regular in the New Zealand side and will miss the start of the MLS to travel to Thailand with the national side.
