According to reports from Sweden, Malmo might be about to bring Eddie Johnson’s English nightmare to a close.

Fulham signed two Johnsons in 2008: one arrived amidst much nail-biting and page refreshing from Everton in August and has just started to hit the back of the net with pleasing regularity. The other came in with much less fanfare from America and after a few disappointing performances was shipped out to Cardiff City on loan.

Eddie, who was considered a massive star in the MLS after impressing for the Kansas City Wizards, looked a little lost up front for the Whites – something which wasn’t helped when he started the Manchester United game on the wing. He came close to scoring against Blackburn and had a decent game at home to Everton, but disappeared from the picture towards the end of the season.

He didn’t enjoy the best of starts at Cardiff and has been restricted to substitute appearances of late. His chances of making an impact at Ninian Park have been hampered by Dave Jones bringing two new forwards towards the end of the January transfer window – and now Malmo might offer an escape route.

His agent and the Swedish side are being coy about the prospect of a transfer, however. We’ll have to watch this space.
