Alistair Mackintosh only arrived at Fulham from Manchester City in the summer. By all accounts, he’s still getting his feet under his desk and sorting out the in-tray. The well-informed fans aren’t really sure what to make of him yet: such scepticism is the legacy of how some of MAF’s previous appointments turned out (Langham, Hone and McNally for example).

It seems that Mackintosh might not be round for too much longer. Tom Hicks has been left holding all the aces after Rafa Benitez won his power struggle with Ricky Parry at Anfield – and Mackintosh is on the shortlist to become the new Liverpool chief executive.

It isn’t the first time that Hicks has approached Mackintosh about taking over the reigns from Parry.
