Fulham defender Aaron Hughes reckons it is impossible to prepare for Rory Delap’s famous long throw.

The Northern Ireland international faces the challenge of Delap’s missiles when the Cottagers travel to the Britannia Stadium to take on Stoke City next Saturday.

And Hughes believes there is no way to replicate in advance the threat posed by the former Republic of Ireland midfielder’s arm strength.

He said: “The delivery on Delap’s throw-ins is so unique and it goes so far. It doesn’t even need to go in off one of their players, it can go off one of ours through a deflection.

“It’s a pretty awesome weapon to have and I don’t think you can really prepare for it until the day.”
